We love spring here at RISE at Riverfront Crossings. With the warmth spring brings comes more time outside! Make your break for the outdoors by hitting up these next-level outdoor destinations close to home and close to the University of Iowa campus.
Looking to get outdoors and away from the University of Iowa campus for the weekend? Or just want a spot to hang out on a warm spring day? Coralville Lake, just north of Iowa City, offers swimming, mountain biking, fishing, hiking, and prime shoreside camping. Gather your crew and escape to nature at this scenic reservoir!
Peninsula Disc Golf Course
Grab your discs and hit up the Peninsula course on Foster Road for a round. Straddling the Iowa River, this woodsy course serves up not only a challenge but some breathtaking views.
Hickory Hill Park
Escape to this 185-acre park in Northeast Iowa City for a little me-time. The sights alone – open fields, dense tree cover, idyllic streams, wildlife – make it worth a visit. Go for a hike, trail run, or for a picnic. It also makes a great study spot, once the weather heats up. You can enter via Conklin or Bloomington.
Terry Trueblood Recreation Area
Flanking Sand Lake and nestled against the Iowa River, Terry Trueblood Recreation Area is a favorite among students and locals alike. Rent a kayak or paddleboard and take a relaxing spin on the water. Or just pack your laptop or tablet and post up at a picnic table or on the grass and keep pace with your classwork. You’ll find this beautiful park on McCollister Boulevard.
